In 2007, the French legislator formed a special service to visit and inspect places where individuals are deprived of their liberty (jails, prisons, psy- chiatric wards, etc..). The Service for the Controle of Places of Deprivation of Liberty (CGLPL) has entire independent administive authority. It is under the supervizion of a main Inspector who can, with his crew of inspectors, visit any of these places,at any time and meet with whomever they choose. Film director Stéphane Mercurio followed about fifteen of these inspectors during their visits, unveiling some truth about life under confinement, about the reality of fundamental human right in such places; her film leads
us to some hidden sides of Democracy.
